Which town is your town?
MyTown . . . for the new school.
Attention retail clients, early adopters, and mobile marketing junkies (Dad, you can skip down to the next section). If you haven’t already, you might want to download the free app MyTown to see what all the hype is about. After all, this location-based, Monopoly-like social game hit over 3.1 million users this past week with its playerbase checking in 15 million times a week—the most popular being restaurants, drug stores, clothing retailers, schools, and gas stations. According to Ad Age, eight out of the top ten most unique check-in locations came from restaurant chains. But apparently MyTown is taking it to the next level, allowing iPhone and iTouch users to scan products in-store to unlock special offers, discounts, and of course, spread the word to all their friends online. (Did your head just explode?)
MyTown . . . for the old school.
Put the iPhone down, junior. It’s time to kick back, relax, French cuff those acid wash jeans, and play the real “My Town” by Cleveland’s favorite ’80s mullet—Michael Stanley. Woo-hoo! Rock-N-Roll!
