Listen to your smallest fans.

By Katie Riley, Brokaw Digital Media Strategist

Among the amazing panelists at SXSW, I had the honor to hear Peter Vesterbacka, the creator of Angry Birds, the little-known app that now has a consumption rate equivalent of 1% of all U.S. TV consumption.  Vesterbacka attributes a portion of the game’s popularity to the fact that they listen to their fans.  For example, a 5 year old named Ethan wrote to Angry Birds (well, technically his mom did) about a level suggestion he had. After receiving this, the creators sent it over to a design programmer to check it out, and now Ethan is one of the youngest game designers in the industry. In the digital age, it is common knowledge that we need to listen to the people who are using our products and services.  The next step is the willingness to optimize based on the consumer feedback we receive.
